Indian captain Virat Kohli revealed that he would love to have his South African counterpart Faf du Plessis as his batting partner.
With the 2019 Cricket World Cup just a week away, the leaders of the ten participating nations gathered on Thursday night for a media event, where they fielded a host of questions.
Asked which player he would love toto have in his team, the Indian skipper singled out du Plessis, who he says shares a lot of similarities with him.
“He’s someone who likes to lead from the front, very similar to what I think of the game.
“He’s obviously a very skilled batsman and has led his country really well. He’s a lovely guy.
“Yeah, the whole package… I think he’s brilliant and it’d be amazing to play alongside a guy who understands the game and is of a similar mindset as you. So, (with) all those points, I thought it’d be good to bat with Faf.”
Asked which past player he would love to have in his team, the Indian skipper went the Aussie route, picking legendary leg spinner Shane Warne.
When du Plessis was asked a similar question, his choice was West Indian great Brian Lara, who he said would “bring a bit of flair” into the equation.
South Africa will be in action in the opening game of the tournament, where they will be facing hosts England on Thursday, 30 May.
Kohli’s legion of fans will get their first glimpse of him when India kick-start their campaign against the Proteas six days later.
