South Africa had very little to celebrate on the second day of the London Sevens, but Justin Geduld did produce a moment of magic during the cup quarterfinal against Australia.

The Blitzboks crashed out in the last eight after suffering a 29-22 defeat to the men from Down Under on Sunday.

That was not before a superb pass by Geduld to set up captain Siviwe Soyizwapi in the corner.

Standing at first receiver in the opposition’s 22 metre line, the 25-year-old launched a long pass, taking two defenders out of the equation as the ball made its way to Ryan Oosthuizen, who released Soyizwapi out wide.

The try was the Blitzboks’ first of the game, after the Aussies had raced to a 12-0 lead.

Despite levelling matters just before halftime, Australia pulled away and were at one stage 29-12 up, and a late comeback from Neil Powell’s men proved to be too little too late as the clock had the final say.

The defeat means the Blitzboks will have to contest fifth place as they are set to take on New Zealand in their next game.

This also further complicates their series title defence, as they are fourth in the overall standings with just one tournament remaining.
