Mamelodi Sundowns arrived in Morocco having never won in the country but we expect to see a more attacking set up from Pitso Mosimane than for the club’s last visit to North Africa.

Sundowns brought a 5-0 lead along with them when they set out to progress to the last four in Egypt against Al Ahly, and as such could sit back, but coach Mosimane wants his team to show attacking intent from the get go on Friday night.

“What is important is to try to score. We haven’t broken that ice, we haven’t scored in Wydad. It’s either we get a draw or lose 1-0, so we need to try to score, try to win and even if we don’t win 1-1 will be nice, but try to score away,” said Mosimane.

“I don’t know what the [Wydad] coach’s game-plan will be when we start there, but I know what my plan is when we’re here [in South Africa]. I told the boys it’s been too long guys, we have to score in Wydad, we have to change the fortunes. Hopefully we’ll score.”

Mosimane appeared keen to transfer any pressure his team might feel to break their duck in Morocco onto the home side, whom he said were firm favourites at home.

“Let’s be honest, Sundowns have a game plan at home for north Africans and they don’t deal with it well,” Mosimane said. “You have seen it so many times.

That’s what we know and that’s what they know. We know that Sundowns don’t win in Morocco. Those are facts.

I can’t say we will win in Morocco. What’s my reference?”

The coach’s reference to attacking intent might indicate a potential start for Phakamani Mahlambi but after his failure to make an impact in the group stage loss to Wydad should throw a blanket on that idea with Gaston Sirino and Lebohang Maboe expected to lead the line.

Wydad have had a few extra days off but come into the match off the back of a Casablanca derby on Sunday, ironically neither that match nor the Champions League tie against Sundowns actually take place in the famous city.

Zouheir El-Moutaraji is expected to operate as the lone striker in a conservative set up from the home side.

Predicted XIs

WAC Casablanca: Tagnaouti; Nahiri, Comara, Dari, Noussir; Saidi, Jabrane; Onakem, Karti, Hada; Moutaraji

Sundowns: Onyango; Langerman, Nascimento, Arendse, Morena: Zwane, Mabunda, Kekane, Vilikazi; Sirino, Maboe.
