Mamelodi Sundowns could lose out on landing one of their targets Grant Magerman, should a team from Europe come calling for his services, KickOff reports.
The Ajax Cape Town midfielder was called up to David Notoane’s squad for the 2019 Cosafa Cup, where he was one of the standout players, despite Bafana Bafana only finishing fifth in the tournament.
His performances in national colours drew attention, with strong links to the nine-time league champions.
Grant Margerman looking to follow in the footsteps of SA’s best
The 21-year-old has expressed a desire to return to the top flight, following Ajax’ relegation in 2018.
However, his agent Ntobatsi Masegela told KickOff that a move abroad would take first preference should it come by.
“Grant Margeman’s first option is Europe. Second option should only be locally with a team that is winning titles, [playing] in CAF Champions League,” Masegela told the publication.
“He wants to follow suit to the likes of Percy Tau, Bongani Zungu, Thulani Serero, Kamohelo Mokotjo and Lebohang Phiri. He wants to compete with the best in the world so that he can improve his football.”
Margerman broke through the scene as a teenager in 2016, making his competitive debut in a league match against Baroka.
He made 14 PSL appearances in his debut season, and bettered that tally in the following campaign – featuring 21 times for the Urban Warriors in what would be his final season in the top flight before the club was relegated.
