The Team of Choice agreed a deal in principle with the nine-time PSL champions at the start of the 2017/18 season, with the player scheduled to make the move to the nation’s capital at the end of the campaign.
However, according to Maritzburg chairman Farook Kadodia, the move will, in all likelihood, not materialise after the 22-year-old made a U-turn on his earlier decision.
“What I can say us that the player has made it clear he does not want to go to Sundowns, but I am waiting for him and his agent to come forward if there’s any truth to this link with Pirates,” he is quoted by the publication.
“We agreed a deal in principle last year, but we can no longer move ahead with it. The decision us now left to the player and his manager.”
Orlando Pirates set to nab Maritzburg United duo
Having added former Maritzburg head coach Fadlu Davids to their technical team, Pirates have been linked with a few players from the club, with Fortune Makaringe reportedly close to making the move to Soweto.
The Buccaneers are said to be close to announcing both Ndlovu and Makaringe in the coming days.
Ndlovu graduated from Maritzburg’s reserve side during the 2016/17 season, where he made 18 appearances in all competitions.
The following season turned out to be a breakthrough campaign for the player, as he scored four league goals and provided five assists in helping the Team of Choice to a fifth-place finish – their highest in history.
The youngster recently helped the club maintain its spot in the top flight, as his goal against Royal Eagles in the promotion/relegation playoffs sent them on their way to survival.
