It’s another round of PSL fixtures, and another clash that will have a huge influence on where the league title winds up as Bidvest Wits host Orlando Pirates at Milpark Stadium.
The two sides are deadlocked at 41 points with the visitors holding a slight advantage via goal difference as they sit second on the table three points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
While the Tshwane giants have their attentions set on continental competition this weekend, this gives either side a chance to summit the table, and neither will want to concede defeat, especially with fourth-placed Cape Town City kicking off against Lamontville Golden Arrows at the same time.
The hosts have been handed a boost ahead of the clash with the return of Bafana captain Thulani Hlatshwayo from suspension, while for the Soweto giants, it’s the opposite as they will be missing the talismanic Thembinkosi Lorch after he picked up a one match ban via a fourth yellow card for the season earlier in the week.
Two more key players are doubtful for Orlando Pirates, with goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands being assessed for a head injury after not finishing Monday night’s clash against Sundowns, along with winger Luvuyo Memela, who too had too be hauled off the field after sustaining a deep gash to the thigh in the same match.
However, a man who will have some inside info on their opponents is back in the reckoning in the form of former Wits attacker Vincent Pule, who – along with Pirates midfielder Ben Motshwari – won the league with the Clever Boys in the 2016/17 season.
The Bafana player spoke to KickOff earlier in the week and underlined the importance of a big performance against his former club.
“We have to do well, because looking at the log now, we stand a good chance of winning the league, so every team we that comes in front of us, we have to make sure we take maximum points.”
Kick off is at 15:00 (SAST)
