Orlando Pirates wide man Vincent Pule is convinced that the club can keep their current run of form going long enough to secure a top-three finish in the Premiership.

The top three slots in the league guarantee qualification for continental competitions.

Top three on the cards for Orlando Pirates

First and second place in the PSL are entered into the Caf Champions League while third earns a club a spot in the Confederations Cup, alongside the Nedbank Cup winners or the fourth-placed team if a top-two side wins South Africa’s premier cup.

Orlando Pirates are the form team of the PSL over the last five games and have gone unbeaten under new head coach Josef Zinnbauer.

Zinnbauer has restored the belief of a team that suffered a terrible slump following the shock departure of former coach Milutin Sredojevic earlier this term.

Pule says the former SV Hamburg boss has helped Orlando Pirates rediscover their confidence.

The winger feels that the club are well placed for a top-three finish while the coach says the team are taking things one game at a time.

“We are taking it one game at a time at this stage. I think our confidence is back as a team,” Pule told reporters this week.

“We will keep on fighting as a team, we will keep up our performances.”

Title tilt not out of the question

Pule would not rule out a push for the title but insisted that Orlando Pirates were simply targeting a top-three finish after a sluggish start to the series.

“I think it is possible for us to finish in the top three in the league. We have to keep going and fighting, anything is possible,” he said.

A long way to go yet

Pirates are fourth in the Premiership standings after 20 rounds of football, they have a match in hand over third-placed Supersport United who have 34 log points against the Sea Robbers 33.

The Buccaneers face Chippa United on Saturday and could move up to second if they win and Supersport United fail to claim all three points in their match against Golden Arrows.

Orlando Pirates will play three PSL matches in February ending the month with a massive Soweto Derby against table-topping Kaizer Chiefs.

Pirates have finished second in the PSL for the last two seasons, coming agonizingly close to ending their trophy drought in the 2018/19 season.
