Maritzburg United goalkeeper Richard Ofori has responded to reports linking him with a transfer to either Mamelodi Sundowns or Orlando Pirates.

Ofori has been immense for the Team of Choice over the last two seasons, and his current coach Eric Tinkler has made it clear that the Ghanain stopper won’t come cheap.

Orlando Pirates target wants to keep progressing

The 26-year-old has kept eight clean sheets in the PSL this season putting him on the radar of two of the biggest clubs in South Africa (Orlando Pirates and Sundowns), and Ofori says the links motivate him to keep improving.

“Yeah, every player’s dream is to make sure that he’s getting all opportunities whilst he is playing,” Ofori said this week.

“It’s a very good sign, it means you are working hard. It shows you are working hard, you just have to continue working hard.

“It’s not that because the team is saying that, you then go to sleep and be comfortable. It’s time for you to work hard and hope everything that teams want from you as a player will come.”

Ofori has played 15 internationals for Ghana’s Black Stars since his 2015 debut. The goalkeeper says that he doesn’t feel there is a big difference between the PSL and Europe and says that his biggest consideration will always be whether or not he enjoys playing at a club.

“Yeah, we have a good league here. Even my friends in Europe, whenever they call me, they always say this league is fast,” Ofori added.

“So it’s a good thing that I can go to Europe and play, because it’s one football, but the most important thing is where do you enjoy playing. The peace of mind is very important, [more] than anything.”

Stopper confident he is among the best in SA

Ofori believes he is among the best goalkeepers in the PSL, something he puts down to hard work.

“I cannot say I am the best goalkeeper, maybe one of the best but what I can say is that I am just doing my work well. The presenters (analysts) and the supporters are the ones to judge,” Ofori said.

“We have some very good goalkeepers in the country and I can only say I’m among them. I will only concentrate on my games.”

Ofori wasn’t able to keep Maritzburg United in the hunt for the Nedbank Cup as they lost 3-2 to Bloemfontein Celtic over the weekend.
