Maritzburg United midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu is on his way to Orlando Pirates, despite being Mamelodi Sundowns-bound initially, KickOff reported on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old is expected to be unveiled in the famous black and white when the transfer window opens in July, along with teammate at the Team of Choice, Fortune Makaringe.
According to the player, he has signed a three-year deal with the Buccaneers, which will see him at the club until June 2022.
How Orlando Pirates nabbed Siphesihle Ndlovu
Ndlovu was expected to turn up at Chloorkop, in the colours of Sundowns, after the nine-time league champions agreed a deal in principle with Maritzburg at the start of the 2018/19 season.
As confirmed by club chairman Farook Kadodia, the player was meant to spend the past season at the KwaZulu-Natal outfit before departing in the upcoming transfer window.
However, it was not to be, with Pirates swooping in with an offer, which enticed the player into signing with them instead.
Ndlovu told KickOff that he had never signed with the Tshwane giants.
“First of all, I made the decision to join the black and white on my own. I’ve never signed with Sundowns,” he told the publication.
“Pirates brought an offer to the team, and then the team sat me down and we talked about it. Ja obviously, I’ve been always willing to play for the black and white, but then when the offer arrived, I could see this is where I could fit in.”
Ndlovu says he was attracted to the Buccaneers’ style of play, which he feels best suits his abilities.”
“They are playing attacking football most of the time, which is the kind of football I love to play, and yes I signed for three years.”
