Zimbabwe Cricket have found at least one team willing to help them fill a sparse 2019 playing calendar in the form of the United Arab Emirates.

The first ODI of the three match series on 10 April in Harare will be Zimbabwe’s first international match since the second Test against Bangladesh in November 2018.

This will be the first time Zimbabwe face the UAE in an ODI since the associate side ended their chances of qualifying for Cricket World Cup 2019 during the qualifier last year staged in the southern African nation.

Uncapped spinners Ainsley Ndlovu and Tony Munyonga have been selected for the squad following a strong domestic campaign in Zimbabwe.

Regular skipper Hamilton Masakadza was ruled out with a thumb injury sustained while playing domestic cricket, while wicket-keeper Brendan Taylor suffered a hamstring injury during the 2019 Pakistan Super League.

Vice captain Peter Moor will assume the captaincy for the series in the absence of Masakadza.

Zimbabwe haven’t won an ODI series at home since October 2015 but this will be the UAE’s first ever bilateral series against a full member. Mohammad Naveed will continue to lead the UAE despite the return to the squad of former captain Rohan Mustafa, after he was suspended for eight weeks.

Opener Ashfaq Ahmed blitzed a century in the UAE’s single warm-up game against a Zimbabwe Chairman’s XI in Harare.

With top order quality absent Zimbabwe will look to Sikandar Raza to provide them with runs from the lower order while he has also been among the country’s best bowlers in white ball cricket.

After this series Zimbabwe will head to the Netherlands in June, where they will play two ODIs on 19 and 21 June and two T20Is on 23 and 25 June. They will then take on Ireland in a previously announced set of matches.
