Manchester United are reportedly on the brink of signing their number one transfer target Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.
United are believed to have agreed personal terms with Sancho but still need to convince Dortmund to allow them to pay the £108 million fee the Bundesliga club have demanded in instalments.
Manchester United ‘close’ to signing Sancho
“Talks between Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho are now in ‘advanced stage’,” Guardian football journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed in an Instagram post.
“Manchester United always wanted to pay Sancho also by ‘add ons’ after Coronavirus problems and are still pushing to sign him paying in instalments. At the moment, still, no agreement between [Manchester United] and BVB but’ talks are ongoing’.”
According to sources close to the player, Sancho had agreed terms with United some time ago but there has been a back and forth between the clubs over the fee and payment.
“Sancho’s contract has never been a problem – personal terms are ready to be agreed until June 2025. The player is now waiting to understand if the two clubs can find an agreement or not,” Romano added.
Dortmund are eager to get the deal finalised in order to replace Sancho. BVB are believed to be interested in former Manchester United winger Memphis Depay.
Sancho has made his name in Germany with Dortmund but he has been on Manchester United’s radar for some time. The winger spent time in Manchester City’s Academy, joining them from Watford at the age of 14.
It has been suggested that Sancho was holding out on signing for United until they had confirmed Champions League football for next season.
United’s swoop for Sancho has raised questions about how much game-time will be afforded to Mason Greenwood next term after a promising 2019/20 season for the youngster. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also has Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford at his disposal.
Sancho has already proven himself in the Champions League and earned 11 full England caps under coach Gareth Southgate.
It has been rumoured that Sancho has been offered Manchester United’s famous number seven jersey worn by Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.
Sources close to the player have claimed that Sancho will be a Manchester United player by the end of the week.
