Benfica’s 19-year-old striker João Félix has been linked with the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus while Manchester City are reportedly willing to sell Gabriel Jesus to fund a move the Portuguese starlet.

His 18 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for Benfica this season have put the cream of Europe on high alert and he has attracted suitors from all across the continent.

The youngster has a €120 million release clause which has so far proved to steep for both Manchester clubs. City are keen to strike a deal for the highly-rated forward but Benfica want to hold on to him for another season to aid in his development as a player.

He has shown tremendous maturity this season, stepping up to take penalties in the Europa League and he has become arguably Benfica’s best player. City are not deterred by the slight frame of the striker, who weighs in at somewhere around 65 kgs. As a 15-year old Félix was let go by Benfica’s Portuguese rivals FC Porto. Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have all actively scouted the teenager and he is not expected to be sold for less than £100 Million, and Porto’s loss is Benfica’s gain.

Félix has helped to lift Benfica back to the top of the Primeira Liga but couldn’t keep them in the Europa league, despite a first leg hat-trick in their quarterfinal against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Benfica are doing their best to bulk up the youngster who displays a calmness in possession that makes him the envy of many a professional footballer.

“In relation to our youngsters, mainly those that are today part of our main squad, Benfica will do everything so that no one leaves,” the club’s president Luis Filipe Viera has said.

“I can practically say and guarantee to Benfica fans that no one will leave. I’m one of the biggest mentors of this project and I will do everything within my power to ensure that no one leaves this year or next if possible.”

Despite their protestations insiders believe Benfica will sell in the off season if they are made and attractive offer.
