The 2021 IPL Auction takes place in Chennai on 18 February with 14 South Africans registered for the event in the hopes of securing a big contract.

The auction for the Indian Premier League of 2021 takes place in Chennai on 18 February and gets underway at 11:30 (SAST).

The auction will be broadcast by the host of the IPL Star Sports in India, while in South Africa it will go out from 11:30 on the SuperSport Cricket channel 212.

Seven South African players have been retained by their franchises for the 2021 edition including two each at the Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals.

IPL auction

A total of 164 Indian players, 125 overseas players and 3 players from Associate Nations will be up for grabs as the eight franchises – Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – look to bolster their squads with the talent on offer.

There are as many as 10 players, including the ‘Turbanator’ Harbhajan Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Jason Roy, who have slotted themselves in the INR 2 crore bracket (Approximately R4-million) – the highest reserve price. There are 12 and 11 players respectively in the INR 1.5 crore and INR 1 crore list.

The newly renamed Punjab Kings (formerly the Kings XI Punjab) will undergo the biggest overhaul with nine places in their squad up for grabs, a maximum of five of those can be overseas players.
