Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather is a man who puts a premium on his time and that was demonstrated this week as the boxer joined personalised video message service Cameo.
Mayweather will wish you or a loved one happy birthday in a personalised video message for the fee of $999 which translates to more than R17,000.
Mayweather no stranger to money
The boxer is one of the most lucrative pay-per-view attractions of all time, across all of sport. Mayweather topped the Forbes and Sports Illustrated lists of the 50 highest-paid athletes of 2012 and 2013, and the Forbes list again in both 2014 and 2015.
His 16 US-based pay-per-view fights have generated a combined $1,667,940,000 in revenue.
Mayweather has earned over $750 million from his 50 professional fights including more than $100 million for his fight against MMA superstar Conor McGregor.
Rumours of wasteful spending
It stands to reason that Mayweather shouldn’t be short on cash by any stretch of the imagination, but that doesn’t mean that the 50-0 boxing legend is going to sell himself short, even for his fans.
Mayweather’s profile on Cameo shows that he generally responds to requests within five days, two days quicker than the limit the message service places on its celebrities.
Mayweather comes at a premium
Cameo has a number of boxer’s registered on its service but few even come close to demanding the kind of fee that Mayweather does. Sugar Ray Leonard, for instance, charges $300 for a message request.
It has been suggested in the past that Mayweather isn’t the best at keeping control over his finances with some speculating that the man who has held major world titles in five different weight classes was broke ahead of his fight with McGregor.
There is only one boxer who demands a higher fee than Mayweather and that is eight-time world champion Manny Pacquiao, who like Mayweather sports a five star rating on his profile. Pacquiao has made at least five videos for fans on the service, with these displayed on his profile.
Super value Springbok skipper Kolisi
For the price of a single video message from Mayweather you could purchase eight videos from Springbok skipper Siya Kolisi who is among six South African rugby players currently available on the service.
Cameo offers a diverse range of personalities with prices fluctuating wildly as they are determined by the celebrities themselves.
