South Africa vs England: International cricket returns to East London for a rare T20I as the Proteas and England square off on Wednesday 12 February.

Quinton de Kock will lead the Proteas having been backed as a long-term skipper by Team Director Mark Boucher. Former captain Faf du Plessis and pace stalwart Kagiso Rabada have been rested for the series.

England have also rotated their group with Joe Root taking a break ahead of an important tour to Sri Lanka. Jofra Archer was ruled out through injury and will be replaced by Lancashire paceman Saqib Mahmood.

Boucher appears keen to foster the opening partnership between De Kock and Reeza Hendricks with Janneman Malan left out of the T20 group. Other options to open alongside De Kock are Temba Bavuma and Jon-Jon Smuts.

Smuts is also in contention for a spot as one of the finishers occupying five and six in the batting order. Smuts should have the edge over uncapped Knights batsman Pite van Biljon thanks to his part-time spin.

The Proteas have two more spin options in Bjorn Fortuin and Tabraiz Shamsi.

England head into the match at Buffalo Park with choices to make regarding their own spinners. Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid should both start unless Matt Parkinson edges the latter out.

The tourists have four opening options, but it should be clear to them that the best of those is Jos Buttler while Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow and Tom Banton should compete for the remaining slot.
