Lions flanker Cyle Brink makes his return to the playing field this weekend after seven months on the side-line with a knee injury for the big clash with the Sharks at Emirates Airline Park on Friday.

Brink sustained the injury during a Springbok training session when someone fell on him and he tore his right patella tendon just below the knee cap.

Meanwhile, Aphiwe Dyantyi will start at outside centre in place of Wandisile Simelane, who has been bracketed on the bench.

Head coach Robert du Preez made two changes to the Sharks’ starting XV.

The loss of Akker van der Merwe to a three-week suspension has necessitated a change in the front row, with Kerron van Vuuren starting and Fez Mbatha coming onto the bench as cover at hooker.

Curwin Bosch replacing Aphelele Fassi at fullback is the only other change to the starting XV.

On the bench, Juan Schoeman comes in for Khutha Mchunu while JJ van der Mescht is poised to make his Super Rugby debut, replacing Gideon Koegelenberg as cover at lock.
