Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni has returned to Port Elizabeth to rejoin Chippa United.
The 31-year-old former Bafana Bafana Bafana man has signed a short-term contract with the Chilli Boys as he looks to revive his career.
Chippa announced the deal on their social media platforms on Friday afternoon while also adding that Athini Jobodwana has been recalled from his loan spell.
“We are proud to announce Athini Jodwana and Thami Sangweni as additions to the Chilli Boys squad for this season. Jodwana, left-back/leftwinger, returns to the team after a loan spell,” said the club.
“Midfielder Sangweni has signed for the Club until the end of the season.”
Sangweni’s career has been on a downward spiral since his departure from AmaZulu in 2012.
He was loaned out to several clubs, including Ajax Cape Town and Chippa United until Orlando Pirates came knocking for his signature in July 2018.
Sangweni was expected to take his career to another level at Bucs but it wasn’t to be as he struggled to cement his place in the team’s starting line-up.
He then joined Chippa, Maritzburg United and Richards Bay FC only to be released a few months into his contract with all those clubs.
Meanwhile, Jobodwana was on loan at Cape Town All Stars. He joined them in November 2020 but Chippa saw the need to bring him back and help them finish the season stronger.
