Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted that Dejan Lovren and James Milner are unlikely to start the club’s Champions League last sixteen second leg tie with Bayern Munich.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to be fit to start in Munich having recovered from the knock he took in the closing stages of the 4-2 win over Burnley on Sunday.

Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: “It looks good. He [Alexander-Arnold] had a bit of a problem obviously but it should not be a major concern.

“He [Lovren] trained in a normal way this morning and he is an option.

“To play 90 minutes might be a bit much but we will see.”

For Bayern Arjen Robben (calf) and Corentin Tolisso (knee) are long-term absentees while Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich are suspended for the match.

David Alaba and Kingsley Coman are expected to return though having missed the Bundesliga giants last two domestic engagements, giving Bayern a good injection of pace.

Bayern boss Niko Kovac said in a pre-match presser: “With Kingsley, I am very happy.

“Yesterday we had training. The ones that played at the weekend played a little less but Coman participated and he seems to be fit for tomorrow. We have to see if he can start or be substituted in.

“David Alaba participated in training but not the whole thing. We will train today and I think he will be starting. Mentally and physically he is fit and will help the whole team.”

Rafinha is expected to switch flanks to cover for Kimmich at right back having filled in down the left in Alaba’s absence.

Liverpool have left Naby Keita and Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain at home, with the latter still approaching full fitness after a long injury layoff. The Reds will have their ideal front three of Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in place.

Barcelona’s Rafinha has been ruled out of their clash with stubborn Ligue 1 outfit Lyon alongside long-term absentee Thomas Vermaelen.

Ousmane Dembélé could make the bench at the Nou Camp but is unlikely to start the second leg of a tie that saw no goals in the first leg.

Veteran defender Marcelo pulled up injured in the weekend’s clash with Strasbourg in Ligue 1 and is in doubt to take the field at the Nou Camp.

After the match coach Bruno Genesio said: “It’s too early to know if he will be able to play, as we will look at it tomorrow with the doctor and then investigate further.”

Striker Amine Gouiri remains on the injured list for Lyon after rupturing his cruciate ligament earlier this season.

Former PSG and Fulham striker Moussa Dembélé will partner former Manchester United attacker Memphis Depay up front for the French side, with the former likely to generate a more direct threat to goal.

Barcelona were frustrated in the first leg and will move away from the trusty 4-3-3 formation to a 4-4-2 with Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi leading the line.
