The Cape Town Cycle Tour, along with the City of Cape Town, is finalising plans to introduce a sort route for the 2020 race.
The world famous race is 41 tours deep, and the 109km course is, according to the organisers, seen as daunting – especially for the younger participants.
Which has seen them strive to be more inclusive by encouraging the youth, as well as the more casual crowd to hop on a bike.
“Cape Town was voted as the World’s Leading Festival, and Event Destination in 2018 at the World Travel Awards and the Cape Town Cycle Tour has largely contributed toward that reputation,
“A shorter course, in addition to the full traditional route, is the perfect solution. We will release more details as we confirm them, but the thinking is that the short route will be held on the Saturday, followed by the 109km route on the Sunday.”
This comes well inside five years since over 30 000 participants lined up for a 4km course in solidarity for those affected the wild fires that ranged around Cape Town at the time.
Back in March 2015, around 35 000 cyclists followers in a circular route which began and ended in Greenpoint in a shortened race.
According to the organisers, more details around the 2020 your will be announced later this year.
