Fixtures are coming in thick and fast for Mamelodi Sundowns, who are in Polokwane for a clash against Baroka on Saturday.

The defending league champions slipped to third on the log, following a defeat to Tshwane rivals Supersport United on Wednesday.

Still six points behind the table-topping Orlando Pirates and with two matches in hand, the Brazilians have a busy month ahead, as their next fixture comes in three days time – against Chippa United at Loftus Versfeld.

The league, however, seems to be less of a priority as far as coach Pitso Mosimane is concerned, with Caf Champions League glory appearing to be the main goal this season.

The former Bafana mentor tipped the Buccaneers to claim a fifth PSL title, saying his side would give it a real go in the next campaign.

“I think Pirates have got a good team to win the league and, fairly, they can win it. I believe they can win the league straight.

Maybe next year Sundowns will win the league. Let’s try next year.”

For Baroka, the fight is to stay afloat rather than chasing top honours, as they sit in 14th place, four points from the bottom.

Bakgakga have won just five matches in the league this season, with only one coming on home soil, and will be desperate for three points against the Tshwane giants.

However, coach Wedson Nyirenda is aware of the magnitude of the task at hand.

“We are playing against the team of the moment, Sundowns. They’ve just conquered Africa’s best Al Ahly, and congrats to coach Pitso and his crew for great success,” he told KickOff.

This is not an east fixture for both teams. We need the match at all costs and they equally need it most. It remains to be seen how we apply ourselves.”
