My query is regarding the article “White South Africans throwing their toys over Discovery Bank’s ‘racism’” written by Cheryl Kahla. I completely understand the fact that individuals are allowed to express differing opinions to that of myself and others and I completely support that.

I however do not support it when a newspaper writes about groups of people however big or small they may be, in a way that is intentionally disrespectful and borderline hateful.

It is unprofessional and distasteful. I have often referred to The South African to find reliable and neutral reporting on a multitude of issues but this journalist has not hidden her side of the agenda and has taken to attacking a group of South Africans instead of explaining why those South Africans may be disgruntled and why they may be wrong for being disgruntled.

The power of journalism is the effect it can have on the society it comments on. Is this the kind of person The South African wishes to make South Africa a better, more transparent place? I frankly do not see that happening if this is the integrity of our journalism.
