City Power Johannesburg announced that several neighbourhoods in Roodepoort North would be without power from 08:00 until 16:00 on Sunday, 14 April.

As per City Power’s public announcement, the “power interruption is necessary to do essential maintenance work on [the] network which is part of [the] program of constantly striving to provide better service.”
West Rand residents are urged to “treat all electricity supply points as live at all time” as the power supply could be restored at any time during the course of the day.

However, as reported by the Roodepoort Record, the following areas on the West Rand will also be affected:
- Liebenberg Road
- Golf Club Terrace
- Constantia Kloof
- Florida Ext 3

How to verify a City Power technician’s credentials
City Power warned residents not to allow any technician or contractor onto their property without first verifying their credentials. This can be done by contacted City Power’s Risk Control Unit on 011 490 7911, 011 490 7553 or 011 490 7900.
All City Power technicians are required to carry an identity with a photo, as well as an identity verification number, expiry date and hologram. Their credentials will also include the numbers listed above.
Load shedding stage 1
But wait, there’s more. Eskom warned on Friday that stage one load shedding could be implemented during the course of the day as our embattled provider suffered a sudden loss of vital generating units on Thursday.
According to Eskom’s power alert, we are facing the “risk of Stage 1 load shedding over the next few months, however, load shedding will only be implemented if absolutely necessary.”
