Police said about 40 suspects entered the dealership and threatened the employees with firearms. They also demanded two luxury cars.

A Cape Town car dealership in Brooklyn has been defaced by a large number of suspects — 40 to be exact. According to video footage making the rounds on social media, a number of luxury cars were damaged, while staff were robbed and threatened with firearms.

The video may only be 44 seconds long but it shows quite a bit. The video shows a dealership garage and inside, one can see up to six luxury cars in different colours. When the video starts, up to 15 people can be seen inside the parking garage but according to police, way more were present. It’s difficult to tell which of are staff but some of the suspects can be seen smashing the windows of the cars. 

One man, standing just outside the garage can be seen with what appears to be a gun in his hand. Other people, perhaps staff, standing along the windows of the garage appear to be holding their hands up in surrender.

POLICE COMMENT ON THE INCIDENT 

The South African reached out to police in the Western Cape for comment, here’s what they had to say; 

“Please be advised that the circumstances surrounding an incident that occurred this morning at a car dealer in Brooklyn are under investigation,” said Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana.

According to information, about 40 suspects entered the dealership and threatened the employees with firearms and demanded two vehicles.

“They were not given vehicles, whereafter the suspects smashed windows and lights of vehicles on display. Eight vehicles were damaged, employees were robbed of their cellular phones. The possibility that the incident is extortion related cannot be ruled out,” added Rwexana.

Police detectives are following up leads to trace the suspects involved in the incident. Cases of Business robbery and malicious damage to property were opened for investigation.
