Cape Town sisters Amron Ilza Siebritz and Geovanna Bianca Siebritz Dowman began their TikTok fashion content-creating journey just two years ago. In July, they launched their own clothing label.

The  27-year-old identical twins are best known on TikTok for their tips for new fashion creators, DIY fashion videos and showing how to style clothing.

And now the Siebritz sisters are entrepreneurs with their own clothing label. They also are style influencers who do various brand collaborations.

Amron is a retail business management graduate, while Geovanna is a public relations management graduate. The combo seems to work, as together the twins have accumulated 103 900 followers and 950 900 likes on TikTok. Those numbers have been helping them to market their clothing label.

TikTok and the Siebritz twins

The twins heard about the TikTok app at the end of 2018 through a mutual friend and began posting, albeit not regularly.

“We started taking posting more seriously towards the middle of 2019 and that’s when we fell in love with the platform,” said the sisters.

They say that having more than 100K followers on TikTok makes it easier to promote their content online.

“The advantage we have with TikTok is that people are always willing to share your video. So that is even more exposure for our brand,” they said.

And they have been taken aback by the positive responses to the TikTok video they posted introducing their label G&A Contour.

“People were so excited for us and could not wait to purchase our items!”

The content they have posted on the app have scored them fashion features on platforms, such as  Mr Price, Converse SA, ClubX Magazine and more.

Every TikTok content creator may have their own niche, but Geovanna and Amron urge upcoming content creators to return to the basics:

  • Get familiar with the app by learning tricks and playing around with the effects and features.
  • Be consistent with your posts.
  • Participate in challenges and trends.
  • Use the correct hashtags.
  • Produce quality content!

They launched their fashion label, G&A Contour, on TikTok in July during Lockdown Level One.

“G stands for Geovanna and A stands for Amron,” they explained.

“Ironically, the lockdown pushed us even more to launch our brand because we had slightly more time on our hands.”

They had dreamt about owning a fashion label since primary school. Then, when the twins were in high school, they began playing around with potential names for the label.

“It’s always been a passion. We have a desire to own our own clothing label and to be our own boss.”

The twins are aiming for stylish quality in a neutral palette, which is representative of their business niche or “vibe”.

They also are keeping the G&A Contour business online as they believe this is where shopping is headed.

“Online stores never close and people shop in the comfort of their own homes.”

They also hope to launch their own app in future.

Women empowerment

Geovanna and Amron said launching a fashion label is also about representation and women empowerment.

“It is not easy being a woman of colour, so we here to encourage women, and especially women of colour that anything is possible!

“We want this to be an affirmation to believe in yourself even when the world says we are ‘damaged’,” said the sisters.

They would like women to support each other and remember that if they, as two Cape Town women of colour, can start their own business, so can every other woman out there.

The Siebritz twins are now working on their next collection.
