As reported by IOL, the seven teens arrested in connection with Thoriso Themane’s murder were each granted bail of R2 000 on Wednesday 3 April.
According to the Letaba Herald, the bail conditions include relocating from the Polokwane district municipality. They also cannot be arrested for any other crime during their bail period, and won’t be allowed to attend any of the schools they are enrolled in.
Themane, a 28-year-old musician from Polokwane, was the victim of a mob attack on 23 February 2019. His bloody body was found the following day.
The case went viral after a video surfaced in which the minors could be seen dragging Themane’s body through the streets of Flora Park, Polokwane.
A total of ten suspects were arrested in connection with the murder – seven minors and three adults. Charges against Russia Chabangu, 36, were withdrawn on 11 March.
Two suspects, 35-year-old Choene Maleka, and 36-year-old Albert Mothapo were granted bail of R1 000 each. The case has been postponed until May to allow for further investigations.
