Unfortunately, the police units’ attempts to capture them were foiled when they managed to gain distance and successfully escape.
“The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen KE Jula has conveyed his sincere condolences to the family and colleagues for the loss of the member,” Captain Van Wyk added.
The police have not confirmed whether the sought suspects have been charged with the murder of the Stellenbosch police officer.
Cop deaths this week…
The 31-year-old becomes the third police officer to die in the line of duty. In Durban, two metro police officers were killed while guarding an ANC councillor.
The two officers were seated in their van, outside of the home of an ANC councillor in Bhambhayi, north of Durban, when suspects opened fire and murdered the officers in cold blood.
“The policeman was found dead inside the police van. The female officer was found dead outside the van near the driver’s door. Police are not ruling out robbery as the motive,” police spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad told IOL News.
