A day after the news of SuperSport’s fallout with Robert Marawa broke, reports have surfaced about what exactly prompted the sports network to end its ties with the popular sportscaster.

As reported by Times Live, an insider who opened up to the publication hinted that this was history repeating itself. On Thursday evening, Marawa took to Twitter to announce that he had been fired by SuperSport via text message, only hours before he was scheduled to host his popular talk show, Thursday Night Live with Robert Marawa.

Robert Marawa dismissal bears SABC similarities

When probed by fans about this sudden turn of events, Marawa hinted that there were darker forces at play that would threaten his life if he revealed everything right now.

Since the incident, murmurs have circulated from the corridors of SuperSport offices in Randburg, about how this incident bears similarities to how Marawa’s relationship with SABC got tainted in 2017.

Back then, the sportscaster walked out of his Metro FM live show in defence of former radio producer, Beverley Maphangwa. In Marawa’s view, the former producer was unfairly dismissed and no amount of negotiation was able to sway him to returning to the station without Maphangwa.

Marawa’s booting tied to internal affairs

Sources close to the SuperSport situation have tied the dismissal to Marawa’s latest stance against the unfair treatment of junior employees at the sports network.

It was first revealed by popular Twitter user, @AdvBarryRoux, that SuperSport had acted hastily in removing Marawa.

A string of tweets from the renowned news breaker suggested that the sportscaster became a casualty in a sexual harassment case that is allegedly being buried by the network’s ‘top dogs’.

These allegations were further exacerbated by sports reporter, Mmaphuti Mashamaite, who took to Twitter to reveal that she has been suffering in silence.

SuperSport’s version of events

The network’s version of events is a little different, however. According to SuperSport,

Marawa’s dismissal is in line with a planned presenter overhaul the network is preparing for ahead of the upcoming 2019/2020 football season.

Nothing is official at the moment. We can only wait until Marawa or SuperSport come forth with more detailed information around the mysterious dismissal.
