South African Police Services (SAPS) are on the hunt for an unknown number of gunmen who are the suspects in the murder of a 59-year-old man at a residential complex in Bryanston, Johannesburg, on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo revealed that the suspects had been travelling in a blue BMW. Police are unsure of the motive but believe the man was followed to the complex by the gunmen.

Masondo told Timeslive: “The police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in apprehending the suspects or in the investigation to please contact the nearest police station or crime stop on 086 001 0111.

“The suspects then accosted the victim and shot at him using a rifle. The victim died on the scene. The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage but police are investigating.”

The man was dead at the scene of the shooting when ER 24 paramedics arrived at 12.46pm on Tuesday afternoon.

“ER24 paramedics, along with city of Johannesburg and Life Healthcare personnel, arrived on the scene at 12.46pm to find the man lying in the parking area of the complex,” said ER24

“Paramedics found the man had a gunshot wound to his head and showed no signs of life. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.

“The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities are on the scene for further investigation.”

Journalist and author Mandy Wiener revealed that the suspects had torched the BMW and are alleged to have used an R4 rifle to shoot dead a man of Eastern European origin.

The alleged murder took place outside the Highbury complex in Bryanston, SAPS have appealed to anybody who may have information about the case to contact their nearest police station or crime stop at 086 001 0111.
