There’s just no catching a break for the desperate motorists of Mzansi. The petrol price for June 2019 was revealed on Tuesday, just hours before it came into effect. Early forecasts that there could be a slight decrease in petrol proved to be fruitless, as the costs actually ended up creeping upwards.

Petrol price for June confirmed

The Department of Energy announced that South Africa would suffer its fifth consecutive fuel hike. According to data released by the Central Energy Fund (CEF), this is what these hikes will look like after midnight:

  • Petrol: Increase of 9 cents per litre
  • Diesel: Increase of 13 cents per litre
  • Paraffin: Increase of 8 cents per litre

Adding these totals onto the fuel price in May gives us the following average prices for petrol and diesel:
