According to Eskom, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo will be affected by load reductions on Saturday 29 August 2020.
According to the statement, power outages will go on from 17:00 on Saturday until 22:00, however, not all provinces have the same time slots. If you’re not in the four provinces listed below, consider yourself lucky to have a power-filled Saturday night.
LOAD REDUCTION IN GAUTENG
Eskom said it will implement load reduction from 17:00 -22:00 to avoid network overloading in high-density areas.
These areas will be affected;
- Soweto; Bram Fischerville, Diepkloof Zones 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, Nomzamo, Orlando East, Orlando Ekhaya and Orlando West;
- Vaal; Drieziek, Golfview AH, Lakeside, Oakmere AH, Ohenimuri, Orange Farm and Stretford.
“During the load reduction implementation, customers are urged to switch off all their electrical appliances to avoid power surges when power returns. Failure to do so may lead to transformer trips or failures, and damages to household appliances when supply is restored,” it said.
According to the embattled power utility, overloading of networks leads to damage to the electricity infrastructure through explosions in overload transformers and mini-substations. It also poses danger to people and property in the affected communities.
“Currently, Eskom is battling to keep up with the increased equipment failure that is costing millions to repair,” it said.
KwaZulu-Natal will experience load reduction from 17:00 to 19:00 on Saturday in these areas;
LOAD REDUCTION IN LIMPOPO
Eskom said it will implement load reduction in the Mopani and Capricorn districts from 17:00 to 21:00.
In the Mopani District, Section B, Section C and Mbambamecisi will be affected. In the Capricorn district, areas like Badimong, Komaneng, Segoreng, Mentz Mshongoville, Mentz Shiloane, Malesa, Makanye and Ga-Thoka will be affected.
Mpumalanga will be affected by load reduction on Saturday from 17:00 to 21:00.
These areas in the Ehlanzeni District will be affected;
- Mhululine, Newline;
- Kamhlushwa A, Phosaville, Kamhlushwa B; and
- Matsulu A.
“Eskom urges customers to treat all installations as live during the interruption of power. Customers are advised to report any illegal activities on Eskom lines on the Eskom crime line number: 0800-112-722,” it added.
