Where is Folweni?

The town of Folweni is about 30km outside of Durban and lies south-west of KwaZulu-Natal’s biggest township, Umlazi. Gun violence is a big problem in the settlement, but this heinous crime borders on the unthinkable. Schools should be havens for our children, but instead, the elements of danger continue to rise.

The area has been declared a crime scene and has subsequently been turned over to SAPS. An investigation has begun immediately, in order to establish what led to such a violent confrontation.

School safety in the spotlight

This brutal murder comes just a week after we saw students at a school in Johannesburg take their gangland rivalries onto the playground. A Grade 11 learner fatally stabbed a Grade 8 pupil at Forest High School. The suspect was granted bail on Monday, claiming he acted in self-defence.
