Eskom says it will be implementing load reduction across three provinces on Sunday evening.
Several suburbs across the country, mostly in Gauteng, have experienced rolling blackouts almost daily for a good chunk of the winter.
Eskom load reduction on Sunday
The power utility says it has been forced to effect the power outages to reduce the strain on its grid brought on by illegal connections.
“Overloading of networks leads to damage of the electricity infrastructure through explosions in overloaded transformers and mini substations. It also poses danger to people and property in the affected communities. Currently, Eskom is battling to keep up with the increased equipment failure that is costing millions to repair.”
Gauteng will once more experience the load reduction on Sunday night, along with certain areas in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.
Eskom said the load reduction will take place from 17:00, ending at 22:00 across all three provinces.
