After a week filled with speculation around the Deputy President position, the sight of Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma seated next to Cyril Ramaphosa at the presidential inauguration rehearsals at Loftus Versveld did nothing to douse the fire.

At the first sitting of the sixth Parliament, Deputy President, David Mabuza, excused himself from proceeding to attend to an urgent matter with the ANC’s Integrity Commission.

David Mabuza future in question

As reported by EWN, Mabuza was included, among others, in the commission’s report on the Parliamentary list of the ANC. After much outcry, the party had submitted its list to the Integrity Commission for review.

ANC members such as Mabuza, Malusi Gigaba, Nomvula Mokonyane have been placed at the centre of state capture by judicial processions such as the Zondo Commission.

The report that was submitted to the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) had surmised that Mabuza “prejudiced the integrity of the ANC and brought the party into disrepute.”

According to the commission’s George Mashamba, after much reflection, the commission has decided that Mabuza and others, will be given three days to offer their side of the story.

However, Mashamba added, this process will not guarantee the return of some of the officials.

On the eve of the inauguration, which may proceed without Mabuza, Ramaphosa was seen with Dlamini-Zuma at the venue of the inauguration.

It was a rehearsal of the occasion, and for a second, it looked as if Dlamini-Zuma was getting comfortable in a seat placement that may soon be awarded to her.

If it indeed is, she stands to become South Africa’s first female Deputy President.
