DA Manifesto Launch 2019 7 1200x889 - DA blasts ANC for orchestrating anarchy for political gain

On Thursday, the Democratic Alliance (DA) issued a statement accusing opposition party, the African National Congress (ANC) of purposefully causing unrest in constituencies where they govern, for political gain.

In the past week, the communities of Alexandra, Tshwane and Khayelitsha broke into protest, calling out the respective provincial governments for failing to deliver adequate service delivery.

The DA believes the unrest in South Africa is caused by ANC

In Alexandra, a township in Johannesburg, the DA as well as the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have blamed the ANC for orchestrating the unrest.

Kenneth Mgaga, the leader of the ANC Youth League in the region was fingered as the main instigator behind the protests that called for Joburg mayor, Herman Mashaba, to account for failing the community.

The DA has also identified the ANC’s head of elections, Fikile Mbalula as another lead instigator in the protests, that have since died down after confirmations that President Cyril Ramaphosa would be visiting the area.

“These attacks are intended to undermine the progress being made in DA governments. Rolling protests are being planned in order to incite violence and shut down communities, in pursuit of the ANC’s narrow political objectives.

“It is now clearer than ever that the ANC would rather create chaos, instability and disrupt peoples’ daily lives than accept that they are losing support,” the opposition party said in its statement.

The basis of DA’s accusations

The DA has since launched the #ANCUngovernabilityCampaign along with this thread of evidence that allegedly points at how the ANC has, since February, incited chaos for political gain:

  • The ANC MPLs disrupted Western Cape Premier, Helen Zille’s, State of the Province Address, to hold their own alternative address outside the provincial legislature in February
  • The Alexandra protests that were allegedly orchestrated by Mbalula, Bell Pottinger and his Bot army.
  • DA senior members, including John Steenhuisen, were allegedly attacked by ANC supporters in Ha-Mudimedi, Limpopo
  • Hammanskraal protests allegedly have the name of the ANC imprinted on them.
  • The ANC is allegedly also behind the Khayelitsha and Tshwane protests.

“Ramaphosa is mum.” – DA

The opposition party has yet to reveal how it intends to approach these allegations. They have called out Ramaphosa for remaining mum about this chaos that is allegedly spearheaded by his political party.

“Worse, despite the violence and chaos instigated by his party, ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has remained mum. His silence is an endorsement of the acts committed in his name and that of the ANC,” the party added.
