This post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8, episode 1.
After the highly anticipated first episode of Game of Thrones’ final season aired on 14 April, HBO went on to release a special behind-the-scenes doccie.
The doccie called, Game Revealed features the producers and actors of the hit show talk about behind-the-scenes action and how everything came together.
More than a reunion episode:
Even though some fans may dub the episode a ‘reunion episode’, the producers did not want the audience to forget that ‘the impending doom was coming’.
“They’re coming,” says Kristofer Hivju who plays Tormund Giantsbane referring to the fact that the White Walkers are out there. “There’s just no way around it.”
The special feature also shows how directors and producers went on to shoot in Iceland.
“Yeah, this fire-lady-dragon-mamma is not so used to the cold,” says Emilia Clarke who plays Daenerys. She and Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow had to do some extensive filming in Iceland as part of the first episode.
“Magic dragon ride,” she continues. “I like it. It’s just like a a magic carpet ride.”
Talking about the actual ‘dragon ride’ (a moment fans of the show have been speculating about with regard to Jon Snow), Harington says that the robotic part was not so easy.
“I think what sums up the buck work for me was there was a bit where Jon almost falls off, the dragon swings around really violently and my right ball got trapped and I didn’t have time to say stop. And I was being swung around. In my head, I thought this is how it ends: On this buck swinging me around by my testicles quite literally.”
Harington also goes on to talk about the scene where Jon Snow finally finds out who his real parents are.
