South Africa has been on the world wine map since the iconic Meerlust Rubicon – a true Bordeaux-style blend – hit the scene in the 1980s.

Vivat Bacchus London is celebrating the wines South Africa has to offer, with Meerlust Rubicon and much more, at its annual South African Wine Festival.

Co-owner Gerrie Knoetze says, “Our aim is to have strong, close relationships with the South African wineries that we work with and we visit various wineries every year. It is important to give our customers the chance to meet the winemakers and the personalities behind the wines we serve. That’s how the SA wine festival was born.”

Vivat Bacchus sets out to show London how great SA wines are by having five nights of tastings and wine dinners, with winemakers and others in attendance to tell stories about life on South African wine farms.

Vivat Bacchus gives back

The community life on the wine farms is also very important to Vivat Bacchus, so much so that Vivat Bacchus donates to the charitable projects on the Kaapzicht wine estate – the first winery that they partnered with to make their own wines. 50 pence from every bottle of own-label wine (there are eight wines and counting) goes to the projects. Have a look at their website at the wonderful work that is being done with these donations.

Enjoy what’s on offer

You can find each night’s wine dinner menu here and see the wine pairings – it’s a four-course dinner, with a welcome drink and a glass of wine per course, each from a different winery.
