It’s a chilly weekend, perfect for binge-watching some of your favourite shows from the comfort of your couch. Get some popcorn ready and settle in for the Sunday movie on M-Net.
Overboard airs on Channel 101 at 20:05 and is a hilarious remake of the 1987 eponymous film. The original film featured Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn but the remake is pretty decent too.
Kate is a single, working-class mother of three who’s hired to clean a luxury yacht that belongs to Leonardo – a selfish, spoiled and wealthy Mexican playboy. After unjustly firing Kate, Leonardo falls off the boat. He then wakes up with no memory of who he is.
To get payback, however, Kate shows up at the hospital and convinces the confused amnesiac that they’re married. In addition, Leonardo has to do manual labour to provide for his new family. But Kate starts to wonder how long she can keep fooling her fake husband.

Overboard wasn’t a hit with the critics. Jeffrey M. Anderson from Common Sense Media called in “lazy, stupid and unfunny. In addition, he said the “gender-swapped remake of the 1980s screwball comedy seems to have been made without anyone caring at all.”
“Hardly likely to convince anyone that remakes are worthwhile, Overboard ekes out laughs but fails to add the romance to the comedy. We’d also leave this one in the water.”
