The 25th annual celebration of excellence in South African music, the SAMAs, gets underway at the Sun City Superbowl tonight (1 June).

Black Coffee leads the way in terms of nominations, he will be up for no fewer than five SAMAs on Saturday night.

The SAMAs have booked an eclectic mix of South Africa’s favourite artists to perform at the event which celebrates the music industry in our country.

Organizers have promised some exciting surprise acts on the night while confirming throwback performances for Bongo Maffin and Trompies.

“There are some great not-to-be missed moments and delightful surprises in store for those in the Superbowl and viewers on SABC1,” A release on the SAMA website reads.”We take it back into time with old school tunes in the Throwback segment with memorable tracks performed by legendary bands Bongo Maffin and Trompies and many more kwaito legends.

“On the Traditional front brace yourself for a medley of dance and vocals led by the legend of the bow and arrow Madosini as well as the iconic Mahotella Queens. Dancers from Tswelelang Cultural Dancers and VhaVenda Cultural Group complete the performance.

“SAMA25 nominees Sjava and Mlindo The Vocalist will have the Superbowl on its feet as they perform in the Maskandi/Urban section along with Mbuzeni and others.

“Powerful voices will raise the roof as gospel legend Rebecca Malope joins the likes of SAMA25 nominee Ntokozo Mbambo for a rousing Gospel segment.”

Organizers are eager to put on the biggest and best SAMA show to date in the 25th iteration of the show.

Nhlanhla Sibisi, RiSA CEO shared, “This is a celebration fit for 25 years of SAMA. The line up speaks volumes of the magnitude of this ceremony. We are proud of all the musicians who will engender the spirit of festivity and revelry with their talent. SAMA25 will be a memorable one.”

How to watch the SAMAs

Tickets to the show at the Sun City Superbowl are available to the public and can be purchased at Ticket Pro for R415.

The show will be broadcast live on SABC 1 from 20:00 SAST on Saturday 1 June.
