Renani Jewels, a Meerut, India-based jeweler, recently broke the world record for most diamonds set in a single ring, according to Guinness World Records.

According to Town and Country, the “Marigold” or “Ring of Prosperity” – named for the flower’s significance as a symbol of prosperity in Indian culture – boasts a whopping 12 638 individual diamonds, coming in well ahead of the previous record-holding ring, which had 7 801 stones.

It is said that the founder of Renani Jewels, Harshit Bansal, was first inspired to break this particular record while studying jewellery design in Surat, India. Roughly three years later, on 30 November 2020, he achieved his goal.

“My target was always more than 10 000 diamonds. I trashed many designs and concepts over the years to finally zero in on this,” Bansal told Guinness World Records.

No two petals in the eight-layer marigold-inspired design are the same, and all 38.08-carat diamonds used are conflict-free, E-F colour, and VVS clarity. The entire creation weighs a little over 165 grams (5.8 oz). In an Instagram post, Renani Jewels assured, “The ring is human wearable and the design is very comfortable.”

The caption also noted that it took three “years for concept development and designing a final product for a beauty like this.”

A matter of pride

Unfortunately, anyone hoping to get their hands on this record-setting piece may be out of luck. “We have no plans of selling it right now,” Bansal told NDTV News. “It’s a matter of pride for us. It’s priceless.”

Beautiful diamonds

last year, the Letšeng diamond mine in Lesotho announced the discovery of one of the biggest diamonds. According to a statement released in 2020 by the mine’s owner, Gem Diamonds, it is a 442-carat Type II white diamond.

“The recovery of this remarkable 442-carat diamond, one of the world’s largest gem-quality diamonds to be recovered this year, is further confirmation of the calibre of the Letšeng mine and its ability to consistently produce large, high-quality diamonds,” said Gem Diamonds CEO, Clifford Elphick.
