Is there hope for a second chance after an unsuccessful marriage? Maybe, but only if the rules are adhered to. The second auteur film, Meisies Wat Fluit, from writer-director, Johan Cronje (Wonderlus), forms part of this years’ kykNET Silwerskerm webinar that takes place online from 2 to 4 September.

About Meisies Wat Fluit

Initially written and directed as a television-film, Meisies Wat Fluit, was part of the Showmax TV-film project where other films such as Posbus 1 and Somerkersfees were produced by Nagvlug Films.

Meisies Wat Fluit will premiere exclusively on Friday 4 September during the kykNET Silwerskerm webinar on DStv BoxOffice. Viewers will also have the opportunity to rent the film on this film platform.

The DStv BoxOffice film platform offers viewers that aren’t DStv-subscribers the opportunity to rent local and international films on their slim televisions and other digital devices.

Very Impressed

“We were so impressed with the standard of the film, which the team produced on a small budget, the quality of the script as well as the acting, that we decided to hold the film back for the Silwerskerm webinar 2020,” says Wikus du Toit, commissioning editor: comedy, drama and films at kykNET.

And so…just as Henk and Sofia’s divorce is settled, they end up back in bed together – for the first time in over a year.

“Johan Cronje has a fine focused talent to carve open contemporary relationships to the core and in a proudly Afrikaans manner, placing the spotlight on the small stuff that can resonate with any viewer on a bigger level,” adds du Toit.

The cast includes Leandie du Randt, Stiaan Smith, Amalia Uys, Geon Nel, Anré Bouguenon, Pietie Beyers, Hanli Rolfes, Bennie Fourie and Gerald Steyn.

One of our country’s most respected film festivals

The kykNET Silwerskerm festival was launched in 2010 as an initiative to support the local film industry. In the past decade, it has grown into one of our country’s most respected film festivals. The first Silwerskerm festival, hosted in Prins Albert, featured only one film. During the past decade, more than 160 short and feature films have debuted at the festival. The festival and the financial support it provides show the commitment of kykNET and M-Net towards the development of local talent.
