More about the Cape Town Funny Festival:

Eddy Cassar founded the country’s first comedy festival in 1997. In 1997 he founded South Africa’s first live comedy project, the Smirnoff Comedy Festival. The Cape Town Funny Festival followed in 2005. He is still running and producing the Cape Town Funny Festival today.

Since inception, it has run to capacity each winter at the Baxter Theatre. Eddy has travelled to the Edinburgh Festival in search of fresh talent which he showcases on the Cape Town Funny Festival.

Over the years the project evolved into the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival, delivered by Turkish Airlines. In addition to showcasing the country’s great diversity and humour, the Funny Festival secures a range of speciality acts from around the world, giving the project its unique characteristic. Eddy also hand-picks the performers or sometimes performers are even recommended by previous performers themselves.
