The world’s hottest celebrities and influencers have been flaunting their super-silky, smooth and shiny hair in their social media posts.
Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Taraji P Henson are just some of the stars who have been reviving the 2018 “glass hair” trend.
Here’s how Kim wore it in back in 2018 and she is again exploring the look:
WHAT IS ‘GLASS HAIR’?
Kim Kardashian has perfected “glass hair”: it’s all about sharp, straight and silky strands that reflect light and have a high shine finish. The hair appears so impossibly glossy and luminous that it mimics the appearance of glass.
The good news is “glass hair” can be achieved without going to a salon.
‘GLASS HAIR’: HOW TO ACHIEVE IT AT HOME
Here’s where to start if “glass hair” is your goal. Your hair needs to be an even length and healthy to get this look. You should use non-damaging styling products, less heat and avoid bleaching your hair.
WASH AND CONDITION
You must use a good shampoo and conditioner to get rid of dirt and oil. Your hair needs to be as hydrated as possible, so make sure you are washing your hair with products that add moisture and shine.
DRY YOUR HAIR
You can either use a hairdryer to dry your hair or let it dry naturally. Use a microfibre towel to cover your wet hair after you come out from the shower.
APPLY A HEAT-PROTECTION PRODUCT
Apply a heat-protection product after you have dried your hair. This will avoid damage to your hair when heat styling. It also provides thermal protection, repairs, moisturises and controls frizz.
STRAIGHTEN YOUR LOCKS
After your hair is completely dry, use a hair straightener to get rid of curls or waves. Divide your hair into small sections and slowly straighten them. If you iron large sections the heat only reaches the hair at the top and bottom. Ensure that you brush your hair while ironing it.
ADD SHINE TO MAKE HAIR EXTRA GLOSSY
You now have to lock in your style and add shine to make your hair look super glossy. Add shine with a good-quality shine spray or flexible-hold hairspray. You can instead of spraying it directly on to your hair put a few drops into the palms of your hands, rub together and distribute it evenly through your hair.
HOW TO FLAUNT YOUR ‘GLASS HAIR‘
Do not use hair clips with “glass hair”. You should go for a middle or side parting and leave your hair hanging free. You can add a small tiara or a hairband if you want to add a wow factor to the look. “Glass hair” looks gorgeous with evening gowns, a little black dress and jumpsuits.
Do not pair this hairdo with high-neck tops, sweaters and coats. And if you want to pair “glass hair” with makeup, you could go for both bold or soft makeup looks — it looks great on both.
