Two of kykNET’s actuality shows will be moving to earlier time slots. In addition, several new shows will be added to the lineup.

Fear not, there’s something for everyone in July. Do you love drama? Then Alles Malan will be right up your avenue. Comedy fans can look forward to Lui Maar Op, Belinda, while travel fanatics will love Elders: Japan.

Alles Malan

Genre: Drama

Plot

Alles Malan follows the day-to-day lives of a contemporary yet fun-loving Afrikaans family living in Paarl. Every family member has their own set of worries and challenges to face.

Some of the characters include Derik and Brenda Malan, the patriarch and matriarch of the family; they’ve been married for forty years. Their firstborn, Frik, returned to South Africa after eight years in England.

His wife Tessa, once a successful lawyer, was forced to take on the role of housewife. Their teenage daughter is pregnant, their youngest son is about to get married and their adopted son battles with his identity. Don’t miss it!

Lui Maar Op, Belinda

Genre: Comedy

Plot

Ian and Ander is a small corner shop in George, owned by Ian Jantjies. Ian is a middle-aged man who escaped the big city bustle and ended up in the small serene town of George.

His three employees ensure for a laugh-a-minute ride, leaving poor Ian to deal with the havoc and chaos. Belinda, a former Afrikaans actress, has an obsession with mirrors while Annetjie Nel barks orders at everyone.

Then there’s Frans Wessels, a charming farm hero who tries to keep the peace between Belinda and the militarist Annetjie, but hardly ever succeeds.

Elders: Japan

Genre: Travel show with Erns Grundling

Plot

The second series of Elders return after Grundling’s Camino adventure in Spain last year. This time around, Grundling and his film crew had to Japan to explore the Land of the Rising Sun.

Elders: Japan will focus on the fascinating country. Not only is it one of the most unique destinations in the world, but also host to the forthcoming Rugby World Cup from 20 September to 2 November.

Grundling will undertake two pilgrimages in Japan – the Kumano Kodo, similar to the Camino in Spain, and the Nakasendo, a former trade route between Kyoto and Tokyo.
