His live stream show, Gerald Clark Live – Blues & Love Songs, will feature a playlist that spans Clark’s trademark atmospheric blues covers, toe-tapping hits from all five of his albums, as well as a few fresh new jams that will officially hit the airwaves in 2021.

Clark, who currently resides in the Czech Republic, released Elderflowers at a workshop for musicians in Prague in 2019.

Elderflowers was one of those songs written in just a few minutes, on the back of an old guitar string packet,” explained Clark in an interview with The South African.

“There was a huge thunderstorm coming in and we were sitting in a cottage out in the woods outside a little town called Třebíč in the Czech Republic.

“This song captures the absolute bliss of a lovers’ quest in the eye of the storm – that pure moment when love seems so simple. It was my first song written abroad.”

He is currently working on a new album which he plans to record and release in 2021.

“I’ve finished a few songs and am busy working on the rest. I feel very positive and excited about it because I think I have some very strong ideas,” Clark enthused.

The blues musician toured the Czech Republic for the first time in 2013.

“We did 21 shows in 21 days and travelled right across the country. It was incredible!” he said.

SA 2021: Shows, friends, family and surfing

He met his fianceé, Radka Bartošíková, on his second Czech Republic tour in 2016 and has been living there since 2018.

Good news though is that he is planning a trip to South Africa in February/March 2021, hoping to be doing some shows, visit friends and family, as well as catching up on some surfing.

The official music video for Elderflowers, which was released this week, was shot on location in Prague and in the Morava region of the Czech Republic in 2019.

Shot in Prague: ‘Proudly South African’ production

All of it was conceptualised, filmed, and directed by Clark’s friends Konrad Raubenheimer and Danielle McDonald from the South African production agency AWEMYBRU. They flew over to visit him from Belgium the weekend the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup in 2019.

“The video contains beautiful footage of the magic that is Prague, as well as the charms of the countryside and my lovely fianceé Radka, who stars as the character who leads the viewer through these mesmerising spaces.

“It took us a long time to release the video and we are happy to share it with the world,” Gerald explained, who added that working with Radka was a natural extension of their relationship.

“We were basically re-enacting our very own, very true love story.”
