The month of love is in full swing and DStv has something special in store for couples, singles and everyone in-between! Brand new shows include an exploration of Mother Earth in documentary series A Perfect Planet, real-life drama in Buddy Valastro: Road to Recovery and a murder mystery in Hightown. There’s more local love with Meisies Wat Fluit and Home Affairs: A Love Story, two original home-grown movies that take a closer look at love and family. For a timeless and enduring family masterpiece, the critically acclaimed remake of the classic Little Women is the perfect way to end the weekend.

New to local screens, Hightown is produced by television icon Jerry Bruckheimer. Set in Cape Cod, the murder-drama series follows one woman’s journey to sobriety which is overshadowed by a murder investigation dragging her into its fold. After the death of a woman named Sherry, Detective Jackie Quiñones finds herself drawn to the case. At the same time, alongside state cop Ray, she pursues Frankie, a drug kingpin. But Ray doesn’t always do things by the book, meaning the pair must compensate for each other’s failings as they pursue justice.

In A Perfect Planet, famed narrator David Attenborough takes audiences on a journey of how life on Earth flourishes through delicately balanced ecosystems. Each episode showcases an array of breath-taking landscapes and wildlife from across the globe, filmed in 3D for a spectacularly wondrous view of the world as we know it.

Recently announced as the host of M-Net’s Love Island South Africa, Leandie du Randt tackles a complex character in local film Meisies Wat Fluit. Freshly divorced, Henk and Sofia are surprised at their newfound chemistry. With the same refreshing vibrancy that made their first sexual encounter such a treat, the two get back together – not as man and wife but as flirting lovers. Will this new type of relationship allow the couple to reignite the spark of love?

Fans of the festive dramady Home Affairs: A Christmas Tale will be delighted to see the stunning cast return for the sequel, Home Affairs: A Love Story. Hilton Pelser, David Viviers and Bronte Snell reprise their roles to bring the family together once more for Pieter and Benita’s wedding. But as we all know, family events rarely go according to plan – can they make it down the aisle without too many hitches?

Little Women is an undeniable classic. It’s also the ultimate feminist text by renowned American novelist Louisa May Alcott, which is another reason why it’s so well-loved. In this remake by Greta Gerwig, the film adds new dimensions for feminist literary enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys reading about the complex relationships between women.

TLC hall-of-famer Buddy Valastro, of reality show Cake Boss, is back on our screens with an inside look at his home life in Buddy Valastro: Road to Recovery. Recovering from an extraordinary, life-altering injury after impaling his right hand, you’ll want to tune in to know how the world’s cake maestro will get back to baking.

With all this entertainment, you’ll be glued to your seat from 12 to 18 February – only with DStv

A Perfect Planet

In this five-part series, Sir David Attenborough presents a fresh look at life on Earth. By combining a global view of the planet with intimate animal stories, the show reveals what makes the planet tick so perfectly. State-of-the-art imagery and technology are used to capture how the seasons drive both our global weather patterns and ocean currents, as well as how this supports the planet’s incredible diversity of plant and animal life. The series also reveals those moments when the planet doesn’t seem so perfect as forces of nature – such as hurricanes, earthquakes, fires and volcanoes – wipe out life in the blink of an eye.
