Avengers: Endgame has not even been listed in theatres worldwide and it is already on course to make history.
As reported by Reuters, Kevin Feige’s ultimate superhero movie surpassed the last two Star Wars films in presale tickets when theatres all over the world launched bookings for the movie.
Avengers: Endgame on course to make history
Scores of Marvel fans went straight to movie theatre sites like Fandango, Atom (both in the United States) and Ster-Kinekor to book their tickets on Tuesday.
As expected, many of the booking pages experienced multiple crashes.
South African Marvel fanatics who were lucky enough to have their booking processed received a booking confirmation via email immediately.
Ster-Kinekor site crashes amid Avengers craze
For the unfortunate ones (myself included), however, the huge volume of activity on the theatre’s booking page caused major problems with processing payments.

The transaction would go off from the purchaser’s end without activating an automatic booking confirmation email from Ster-Kinekor.

The theatre did issue an alert, stating that those who had not received any booking confirmations would likely be refunded, restarting the booking process.

Will Endgame be the biggest blockbuster movie of all time?
According to Fandango’s managing editor, Erik Davis, the movie already broke its record of presale tickets in just six hours.
“Avengers: Endgame sales have exceeded all expectations and surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the previous record-holder, to become Fandango’s top-selling title in its first 24 hours of sales, and it accomplished that feat in only 6 hours,” he said.
Many others have been scrambling to get hold of tickets before the movie hits cinemas later this month, anticipating that it will be even harder to reserve a spot. It has been speculated that the Marvel film is the most-anticipated movie of 2019.
In the United States, things have gotten so desperate that people are auctioning their presale tickets to the first day of screenings for a shocking $500 (around R7 000!).
