Afropunk shook the Twitter streets on Tuesday evening when they announced that Solange Knowles, Miguel and Masego — all US mega-hit exports — will be headlining the Johannesburg cult festival.

Johannesburg’s feature festival attracts fans from all over the world. People literally travel from all corners of life to rock out to alternative music for two days.
Afropunk 2019: What type of festival is it?
The festival has stomped its authority as the only mainstream music event in South Africa that has an off-centre feel about it.
One could argue that the same could be said for Oppikoppi Festival but they are going through some things at the moment.
Fans were particularly thrilled to see that Solange was back on the festival line-up for the second time in two years.
Will Solange be in South Africa on NYE?
In 2017, just three days before the event, she pulled out of the line-up, striking mass disappointment to people who had waited the entire year to finally see her live in South Africa for the first time.
“It’s so important to me for the people in South Africa, a place that has tremendous meaning to me and that has given me SO SO MUCH, to know why I won’t be performing at Afropunk this NYE. The past five months I have been quietly treating, and working through an Autonomic Disorder,” she wrote in her Instagram post.
It looks like Bey’s sis has held true to her words as she has, once more, availed herself.
She will be accompanied by the R&B soul powerhouse and heartthrob, Miguel, as well as Masego, one of the most talented saxophonists alive — he might as well move to South Africa already the way he’s been coming down here so much.
When is Afropunk Festival?
Afropunk 2019 will take place at its staple venue, Constitutional Hill, in Johannesburg on 30 and 31 December. Visit the festival’s site to find out about tickets.
