Bursaries provide learners with opportunities as well as access to higher education after matric. If you’re a matriculant with a dream to pursue a finance-orientated career, then this might give you a nudge in the right direction.

Getting funding for tertiary education seems like a hurdle at times. Therefore, we’ve rounded up four bursaries to help you out.

Auditing: Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipilaty Bursary

This bursary aims to assist students in the following fields: Accounting, Actuary Sciences, Econometric, Economics, Financial Management, Internal Audit, and Public Management Finance.

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality falls under the East Rand local government, with Germiston as its seat.

Requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident
  • Must reside in Ekurhuleni
  • Open to students with the intention of studying full-time towards an undergraduate qualification
  • Preference will be given to female students, students with disabilities, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds

The following documents will be required:

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate, if completed; or latest results, if still in Matric
  • Certified copy of proof of registration at a tertiary institute
  • Certified copy of proof of residency in Ekurhuleni
  • Certified copy of parent or guardian’s payslip
    • In parents or guardian unemployed: affidavit and application form
    • if parents or guardian deceased: certified copy of death certificate

Chartered Accounting: A2A Kopani Inc. Bursary

A2A Kopano Inc was created 13 years ago to improve and expan existing South African auditing firms. It serves both the public and private sectors and is committed to job creation.

Bursaries through A2A Kopano range between R25,000 to R40,000 per year and students will be required to work at A2A Kopano’s Eastern Cape office for an amount of time once their studies are completed.

Requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be studying towards a Chartered Accountants (SA) qualification
  • Must have a strong academic record
  • Preference will be given to students who reside in Eastern Cape, and who’ve completed the first year of their studies.

The following documents will be required:

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate
  • Full academic record or transcript (tertiary institution letterhead)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Covering letter; students can submit their own or download this draft.

Finance & Financial Management: ABSIP Bursary

ABSIP values excellence and will chose only the most deserving students for this bursary. Preference will be given to students who are ABSIP members busy with their second year of study onward. This bursary will not be made available to first-year students.

Requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Strong academic record
  • Studying towards a qualification within the Commerce field of study
  • Achieved a minimum overall average of 60% for studies
  • Proven financial need
  • From a previously disadvantaged background
  • Member of ABSIP with six month’s good standing

The following documents will be required:

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of Matric mid-year and final results
  • Certified copy of parent or guardian’s ID documents
  • Parent or guardian’s affidavit, if unemployed
  • Parent or guardian’s proof of income, if pensioners.

General Accounting: Clover Bursary

Clover values ambition and academic excellence and are looking for students who are dynamic, have leadership qualities and lead a balanced lifestyle. The bursary will only be made available to students who have completed their first year or study.

The Clover bursary ranges between R60,000 to R75,000 of tuition fees per year until completion of studies. Students will be responsible for registration fees, classes, accommodation, travel and daily living expenses.

Learners who excel in her studies may be considered for Clover’s Young Professional Development Program and career aspects within the company.

Requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Must have completed first year of studies
  • Must be enrolled full-time at one of the Universities on Clover’s list of HET institutions
  • Strong academic record
  • Preference will be given to healthy individuals who lead a balanced lifestyle.

The following documents will be required:

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate
  • Certified copy of latest University academic results
  • Motivational letter
